Hard to believe but recently we celebrated 10 whole years of Pearl! This girl is the best. She’s so thoughtful and silly and smart. She’s a fantastic big sister, a loyal friend, so curious about the world and so eager to step in to be a helper.
Pearl loves animals, exploring, and being outdoors. She’s willing to push herself to do challenging things and she’s often up for trying new activities. In the past year she’s tried gymnastics for the first time, participated in every event at the school track and field meet and joined both the volleyball team and the basketball team at school. She’s got a solid set of friends but she’s also willing to step out and try things on her own.
This year we celebrated Pearl as a family on the day of her birthday. Our traditional cinnamon buns for breakfast, cookies to share at school, homemade pizza for dinner, and then Peter and I took her out to a local restaurant for dessert. A few days later she celebrated with her closest friends. She wanted a dinner party so I made Shirley Temples while she and her friends hung out and played games. Then we ordered sushi (Pearl’s favourite food) and had ice cream sundaes for dessert.
It’s a delight to celebrate our Pearl. She is a delight and I feel endlessly fortunate to be her mum.

Oh, for Pete’s sake! When did I lose the ability to keep your kids straight!? I’m so sorry 🫤 My cousin Autumn has 5 kids in her house, and I kept calling one if then the wrong name. I felt so bad, but she just replied, “There’s too many damn kids all up in this house anyway!” 😂
That’s ok! They both like kind of offbeat animals. People get their names mixed up plenty at school too, I think, even with just the two of them!

They’re a non-alcoholic cocktail, said to be invented so that Shirley Temple had something fancy to drink at Hollywood events! They’re grenadine, orange-juice, and lemon-lime soda. They’re very sweet! My girls had them at a wedding once and thought they were the fanciest thing ever!
