About

“My story is important not because it is mine, God knows, but because if I tell it anything like right, the chances are you will recognize that in many ways it is also yours. Maybe nothing is more important than that we keep track, you and I, of these stories of who we are and where we have come from and the people we have met along the way because it is precisely through these stories in all their particularity, as I have long believed and often said, that God makes Himself known to each of us most powerfully and personally. If this is true, it means that to lose track of our stories is to be profoundly impoverished not only humanly but also spiritually.”

Frederick Buechner, Telling Secrets

galiano - karissa and a yellow chair

My name is Karissa.

I’m a reformed city kid, living in a small community on the West Coast of Canada, accessible only by boat. (But it’s not an island. Figure that one out.)

I’ve been married to Peter since 2010. He’s my favourite.

I’ve lived in 5 cities across 2 countries.

I’ve visited 18 countries. My earliest memory is from a trip to South Korea.

I keep a list of books I want to read. This list is actually an entire notebook. I will never be finished this list but I’m trying really hard.

I’m a mom to two girls, Pearl and Rose.

I learned to swim in a lake.

I learned to kayak in the ocean.

Unintentionally, but beautifully, each of our girls have a Bible verse to go with their names. (Matthew 13-45-46 for Pearl and Isaiah 35:1-2 for Rose.)

I’m allergic to echinacea.

I just cannot get through Ulysses by James Joyce and that giant book sits on my shelf, continuing to shame me. I have, however, read War and Peace.

I had two very, very different birth experiences with my daughters and I secretly love talking birth stories.

My favourite food is macaroni and cheese.

I told you I read War and Peace so you’d think I’m smart.

The best truth I know about myself is that God loves me.

  1. fellow mac and cheese lover here. Would love to get in touch about my books. My Cape Harriet series is set in a small sea side town on Virginia’s Eastern shore. Not quite an island, but close πŸ™‚

  2. Hello, just thought I’d mention that I’m from Vancouver but living in Pender Harbour and working in Sechelt/Gibsons and I’m a fashion blogger… looks like we have a lot in common, especially considering this list! πŸ™‚
