This past weekend was a long one around here, thanks to the made up holiday of Family Day. (Hey, I’m not complaining. We now get a day off in February.) Our weekend was a lovely blend of friends, outdoors, down time, and good food.
(Pearl loves this book of farm animals and now goes, “Mmmm” when we say, “Moo.” I thought we had taught her the sound cows make but she makes it for every page in the book so I’m not sure what she’s learned here.)
After a stormy and blustery Friday, Saturday came full of sunshine. Just in time for a visit from some old friends. These friends had a baby girl in August that we hadn’t met yet and it was so fun to introduce her and Pearl. Pearl loves looking at pictures of babies but is a little less sure when confronted with real life ones. They did pretty well together. We headed out to one of our favourite hikes at Smuggler Cove and enjoyed the sunshine before bringing them back to our place for homemade pizza.
Sunday evening we were invited over for dinner with some different friends (Is it starting to sound like I’m attempting to prove that we have friends? We totally do.) Pearl enjoyed letting their dog lick her hands while she ate dinner. We enjoyed delicious ribs.
Monday, being the holiday, Peter and I both had the day off work. Since we already had childcare lined up for Pearl we decided to seize the opportunity and went out for a breakfast date, just the two of us, followed by a walk along the beach in town.
And an attempt at a photo together.
In the afternoon we combined an errand to pick up tires with a chance to go for a family hike at Francis Point Peninsula Park. We’d been there once before, in July 2014.

Not immediately obvious, but Pearl is actually in both pictures.
It was a lovely hike in a lovely spot.
Now, was it easier carrying Pearl on the back, or… in the front? She’s looking so totally aware of her surroundings now, and posing beautifully for the camera… 🙂
I have to confess that I only had her on my back for this picture. Peter carries her when we go hiking. So this second time was definitely easier on me. Harder for him though!
