(This felt predictable to me and the characters didn’t really grab me so I stopped after the first section However, my sister-in-law happened to be reading it at the same time (we didn’t know this until afterwards) and she enjoyed it a lot more so it’s definitely possible that this was simply a reader mismatch for me. That said, if I had to recommend a book about Iran in the 20th century, it would be Aria.)

Thoughts and What’s Next:
August continues my summer slow streak. With two camping trips, an anniversary getaway (all of the above pictures were taken on that trip), and a kitchen reno in there, I’m not shocked that I only managed to read 6 books this month. My highlights of the month were definitely Radicalized, Molly of the Mall, and True Story. Both were unexpected delights. I picked up Radicalized from the library because of its status as a Canada Reads contender and was blown away by how prescient Doctorow’s short stories were.
I’m still catching up on summer ARCs but there seems to be a bit of a lull after that so I hope to focus on my own hold shelf as fall approaches. A copy of Hamlet & Judith by Maggie O’Farrell is calling my name and I am next in line for The Nickel Boys at the library. I also feel like September might be the perfect time to finally read some more Donna Tartt.
How was your August reading? What was the best book you read this August or this summer?
Once you catch up on ARCs, are you going to keep requesting them?
I’m trying to be more discerning/realistic about which ARCs I say yes to and have turned a few down recently where I used to say yes to everything because I was so excited to be asked. I don’t think I’ll completely stop getting them though because I do love the access to new releases and titles I’m genuinely excited about.
Sounds like a good reading month considering how much else you managed to fit in! Gorgeous photos… 😀
Thank you! Not hard to take good photos in such a beautiful spot! August was a very busy month for us!
Gorgeous photos!! I hope you’ll like Hamlet & Judith, and The Nickel Boys- both were very strong reads for me!
Thank you! I’m really looking forward to both!
Love the photos! And I totally forgot to ask about the kitchen reno…
You can see it in person on your next visit! I’d share a picture but we’re now in the middle of replacing the kitchen window so it’s kind of a mess!
