In no particular order…
- Finally getting some gardening done. Busy schedules and a digging dog prevented me from starting as early as I’d intended. Peter has been working hard at making my garden dog-proof and I’m so pleased with his work.
- We even have more gardening space than before. A tree that we were already losing to fungus had partially blown down in a storm. After taking it down completely we were left with a scrappy, weedy patch that we decided to turn into a garden bed. Again, Peter put a lot of work in here.
- Beach days! We had heat surge here in the middle of the month with temperatures close to 30 degrees (very unusual for us in May) so we enjoyed some time at the beach. We paddle boarded, kayaked, and some of us swam in the ocean.
- Pearl and Rose were part of a music concert at school. Their school has an amazing music teacher and getting to see all the work they’ve been doing is so cool. Primary school concerts might be one of the cutest sights.
- Winnie continues to be a great addition to our family. She’s definitely a lot of work (see re-vamping our yard to protect it from her) and we’ve got a lot of training to work on but we are really enjoying her. It is particularly rewarding to see how much our kids love her. And she has already become part of our neighbourhood! Recently I was walking home from dropping the girls off at school; I had left Winnie at home that day and passing by a neighbour I had never spoken to before, she called out, “Where is your dog?” It always makes me feel a certain type of delight to realize that I am part of how other people see their neighbourhood. Like, there are the people I see regularly out walking or biking or whatever and I am one of those people for other people! How delightful!
And some recent photos:

How exciting for Rose to lose her first tooth. We need to make a plan to come meet Winnie!
Many of the other kids in her class have lost teeth and so Rose was starting to feel upset that she hadn’t yet. Big excitement, for sure!
You will definitely have to come meet Winnie!
I wonder if some dogs are more prone to digging, like if they are a certain type of hunting dog historically, or something. We only had one dog that would dig, and it was only on sand.
I think there are definitely breeds who dig more than others. Fortunately, the digging seems to have lessened rather than just moved to other areas! She digs in sand too!
