2023 Highlights: August and the end of Summer

Hard to believe that tomorrow is Labour Day and everyone goes back to school on Tuesday. While in some ways we’re all looking forward to the return of routines and regular schedules, it’s always sad to say good-bye to summer vacation. June feels like a long time ago but August flew by!

The last couple of weeks in August were packed. I had a busy couple of weeks at work with the annual Sunshine Coast Festival of the Written Arts. I work a few 12 hour + days and several days in a row (I usually work about 3 days a week).

Festival book tent in the evening.

Concurrent with the Writers Fest, we had family visit – Peter’s brother, his wife, and their two sons. Our kids are all very close in age and love spending time together. We got in lots of beach time at Peter’s parents’ as well as a final camping trip together at Klein Lake. It was especially nice for Peter and I to camp more locally on the Coast and not have to take a ferry anywhere!

The turtles in Klein Lake were a particular highlight!

The next week (the last in August) Peter went back to work. He’s starting a new position this year, one that will see him working at the same school as the girls. At the end of the week, Peter and I got a night away in Vancouver, a chance to belatedly celebrate our 13th wedding anniversary. We ate some good food, did some shopping, and walked a lot.

And here are some random photos from this summer that have been hanging out on my phone but haven’t fit into any other summer posts, I guess.

    1. Pearl wanted to let dogs know they are welcome but a wet dog kept trying to climb into Rose’s bed so she thought some signage would help 😂

I honestly cannot remember how that happened. We were hanging out at his parents’ house Ali by with his brother and his brother’s wife and suddenly his mom was bringing up this old suit and Peter decided to try it on!
